Lush in texture yet steely with fresh acidity, this white offers refined accents of apple, lemon verbena and stony mineral while gliding on the fresh finish.
Like a breath of fresh air, this delicate, refined red displays cherry, strawberry, currant and hibiscus flavors. Feels crisp on the finish, as much from tart acidity as the tannins.
The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé—a blend of 50 plots around Fuissé, about half on limestone soils aged in barrel for 18 months (ten months in barrel and eight in stainless steel)—has a clean, precise bouquet. Though not amazingly complex, it conveys a sense of tension. The palate is well balanced with a slightly tangy entry, fine weight, orange zest and light spicy notes and plenty of sapidity on the finish. Just a delicious Pouilly-Fuissé.
The 2024 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Perrières 1er Cru was the first to be picked at 13.3° potential alcohol. This is quite powerful on the nose, with touches of walnut and smoke infusing the citrus fruit. The palate is fresh on the entry with a citric line of acidity that lends this tension. This linear, classically-styled Pouilly-Fuissé calls out for some fruits de mer! Very fine.
The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Perrières 1er Cru comes from marl soils higher up the slope than the Clos des Prouges with a lot of strong detritus. There is a very subtle reduction at play, quite tensile with a discrete marine influence. The palate is taut and fresh, quite edgy and stricter than the Clos de Jeanne, verging on shrill and citric towards the finish. Therefore, I would afford this a couple of years in bottle.
