Il Pino di Biserno truly represents the unique terroir of Bibbona. The special blend of grapes makes Il Pino a classic wine of the Upper Maremma. Although produced from grapes from the youngest vineyards, the wine is distinguished by its balance and finesse. Il Pino demonstrates the character as well as the potential of Tenuta di Biserno. Soil type is part clay, part Bolgheri conglomerate. Vine training is spurred cordon with plant density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The wine was aged for 12 months in new and second use French oak barriques and 10% of the volume was aged in stainless steel.

Harvest Note
2017 was a warm and dry year for the region, from little rainfall during winter to a summer with insignificant scattered millimetres of rain during the four-month period from early May to early September. It was a year of adverse weather phenomena in many parts of Europe with frost, hail storms and torrential rain, and many wine regions suffered a reduction in production volume. Tenuta di Biserno and Tenuta Campo di Sasso were fortunate in the sense that apart from the dry and warm to hot conditions our vineyards escaped all damaging weather events.
Tasting Note
Il Pino shows an intense nose with ripe fruit and some spicy notes. The oak is well integrated and adds complexity and balance to the fruit. The wine is medium to full bodied with ripe tannins, fine acidity and great length. The wine has all the components to develop beautifully in the next 7 to 10 years.

About the Grape

Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc usually shows tart red cherry and wild currant aromas and flavors with an herbal, spicy character. In the Loire, esp. Chinon and Saumur-Champigny, this grape shows firm minerality.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is adaptable to various growing conditions, and is known for its low yield and late ripeness. It generally produces full-bodied wines with substantial acidity and tannins.
Merlot
Merlot makes plump, succulent wines to drink young or opulently massive wines for aging. Has silky, blackberry and currant fruit, with spice, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes, and soft tannins.
Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot makes a dark, firmly structured, tannic wine with superbly balancing acidity, and fresh, full flavors and aromas of spice, pepper and black fruits with notes of violets.
