Michele Chiarlo’s extensive vineyards stretch over more than 272 acres of Piedmont, including the hills surrounding Canelli, which offer an ideal microclimate for growing Moscato. Grapes are hand harvested from select vineyards with southern exposure and placed in pneumatic presses, followed by a slow fermentation using natural yeasts to a low level of alcohol. Unfermented Moscato grape must is then added to fine tune the sugar levels. Finally, the wine is immediately bottled in order to preserve the characteristically aromatic, sweet fruit fragrance of the Moscato Bianco grape. The result is a wine with such a delicate finesse that Michele Chiarlo named it Nivole after the Piedmontese word for clouds.

Harvest Note
The autumn-winter season began with heavy rains in November and moderate snowfall in December, followed by a month of January that has been quite dry up until early February, which has seen a couple of snowfalls. The situation has enabled the formation of a great water reserve that has proved to be precipitous in the summer. The following months of February and March have seen mild and dry weather; but such condition has changed for the months of April and May, marked by abundant rains that re-balanced the vegetation of the vines, which formed disparate buds between the higher and the lower parts of the hills. May and June have been hot and dry, registering temperatures above the average for a brief period of time. The unusual and abundant rain at the beginning of July has definitely contributed to favoring gradual maturation that followed the conventional times of an outstanding vintage, however a somewhat poor harvest has been registered for some varieties. White wines are well-structured, harmonious with ideal level of acidity and aroma intensity, thus promising an excellent vintage.
Tasting Note
Brilliant straw yellow. The wine has typical floral aromas of Moscato, with notes of peach and apricot. On the palate, the wine is creamy and fragrant, with a pleasant fine bubble and a particularly fresh finish.
