This very small Grand Cru is located in the south of the Côte de Beaune, at the top of the slope where Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet meet. The subsoil here is very chalky with many stones, well drained, and quite sunny, with a south/southeast exposure. The wine is fermented and matured for 15 to 18 months in oak barrels.

Harvest Note
2014 was a year for excellent, balanced whites as the season began and ended strongly. The dry, warm weather was instrumental in advancing the development of the vines. Due to this, flowering began early and conditions in the area were dry until the end of June. On June 28th, hailstorms moved throughout the region, reducing yields in Meursault, Volnay, Pommard, and Beaune. In September, fine weather returned and the harvest was able to begin on the 12th. Despite the hailstorm, quantities were higher than they had been for the past few years.
Tasting Note
This Grand Cru is produced in limited quantities, and sometimes equals or surpasses the great Chardonnay Grand Cru Le Montrachet in its concentration and complexity. It offers a profound fragrance of toast, honey and white fruit. It is full-bodied and powerful, with a long finish. Made to age, this wine will develop in the bottle for 15 to 20 years.
Food Pairing
Serve with turbot, monkfish, scallops, lobster, white truffle pasta and delicate meats such as braised veal and poultry.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
