Samas is named after the Punic God of the Sun. Vermentino and Chardonnay grapes grown in a predominantly sandy soil are hand harvested at dawn to maintain characteristic varietal notes and freshness. Cryomaceration techniques prevent oxidation, resulting in a bright, vibrant wine. With prolonged fermentation using selected yeasts at controlled temperatures (60˚ Fahrenheit), the wine remains on the less for approximately 40 days. Vinified separately, the varieties rest in small concrete vats for 3 months once blended.

Harvest Note
The 2020 harvest is quite similar to the previous one, especially during winter and spring with little rainfall. Summer unfolded under dry conditions. Harvest of the Chardonnay started after the 10th of August as usual and Vermentino at the beginning of September with no stops as it did not rain during that period. The average quality of the grapes was very good, resulting in good quality wine.
Tasting Note
Vivid yellow straw color with soft, green hints. On the nose there are tropical fruit and citrus notes. On the palate the wine is silky and well balanced by a moderate alcohol content, good minerality and freshness.

About the Grape

Chardonnay
Though it has a distinctive profile, Chardonnay reflects other factors such as soil composition and vinification technique. Chardonnay is a reliable, hardy and prolific vine whose only real vulnerabilities are frost and uneven development of fruit.
Vermentino
Vermentino produces big, ripe, deeply-colored wines with balance, substance and character. The wine shows delicate, persistent citrus, herbal and almond aromas, and similar, supple fruit flavors.
