Taylor Fladgate is one of the original founding Port houses and has remained a benchmark among Port producers throughout its history. This Limited Edition Reserve Tawny, released in a commemorative, early 18th Century style bottle, is a tribute to Taylor Fladgate’s long history and mastery of the art of cask aging and blending. Carefully put together for this from specially selected Ports from Taylor Fladgate’s extensive aged Tawny stocks, aged in seasoned oak Port pipes. Its character is unique for this bottling, with the characteristic Taylor Fladgate richness and with its distinctive grip on the finish.
A core of deep brick red fading to russet on the rim. A beautifully mature and complex nose, full of evocative, subtle nuances. Aromas of plum, fig and raisin blend with a mellow redolence of marzipan and butterscotch. Hints of cigar box, cedarwood and leather add an exotic dimension to the nose. The wine is seductively round and smooth with discreet, beautifully integrated tannins adding an attractive dryness and grip. The wine is full of rich, fruit cake flavors with some fresh plum character emerging on the long finish.
Pairs well with figs, almonds, pecan pie, desserts made with coffee or caramel, and crème brûlée. It can also be served at the end of the meal with walnuts or dried fruit and it can be slightly chilled in the summer.
